Joshua Schwartz is Professor of Historical Geography of Ancient Israel in the Department of Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology and Director of the Ingeborg Rennert Center for Jerusalem Studies at Bar-Ilan University. He is the author of Jewish Settlement in Judaea after the Bar-Kochba War and Until the Arab Conquest (Jerusalem: The Magnes Press, 1986), which received the Yad Yitzchak Ben-Zvi Prize, Lod (Lydda) Israel: From its Origins Through the Byzantine Period (British Archaeological Reports International Series 571; Oxford: Tempus Reparatum, 1991), and has edited over ten books on various aspects ancient Israel, as well as published numerous scholarly articles. He has served as editor of Cathedra, an academic journal on the history of the Land of Israel and is editor of the Jewish and Christian Perspective Series of Brill Academic Publishers, Leiden. He currently also heads the “Jerusalem Reborn Project” seeking to create a virtual reconstruction of Jerusalem. Prof. Schwartz serves as Senior Fellow at the Shalem Center.
