Sandro Pignotti received his doctorate in 2005 from the University Ca’ Foscari of Venice and the Freie Universität of Berlin in Modern Philology. He studied Ancient Rhetoric, German Literature, and Philosophy in Germany and Italy. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the Franz Rosenzweig Minerva Research Center in Jerusalem for German-Jewish studies and at the Simon Dubnow Institute for Jewish History in Leipzig (Germany). His published articles include Walter Benjamin e l’idea del letterato europeo in Annali di Ca’ Foscari and Walter Benjamin – Kdo je to? in the Catalog of the International 27th Biennial of Graphic Arts in Ljublijana (Slovenia). He is the author of the book Walter Benjamin – Judentum und Literatur. Tradition, Urspung, Lehre mit einer kurzen Geschichte des Zionismus (Freiburg, Berlin, Wien: Rombach, 2009). His research fields are: history of modern Zionism, the history and concept of Aggada in Jewish Tradition and in modern Jewish Studies, German-Jewish Literature and Philosophy in the 20th century, the legacy of Martin Buber, Franz Rosenzweig, Hermann Cohen, Gershom Scholem and Leo Strauss and the works of Franz Kafka, Walter Benjamin and Paul Celan.
